What do speech and language difficulties look like in the classroom?
Some commons signs of children with attention, receptive language, or expressive langauge difficulties are:
- Slouching in seat
- Fidgeting/difficulty sitting still
- Distracted, may seem as though they are not listening
- Do not follow long instructions
- Difficulty expressing ideas
- Difficult to understand speech
- Gets ‘stuck’ on words
- May not readily answer questions in class
- Passive and quiet
- Frustration
- Low self esteem
- Lacking confidence in their peer relationships
- Poor social skills
